Optimization of a Mathematical Model of Cerebral Autoregulation Using Patient Data

چکیده
This study presents an analysis of a cerebral autoregulation (CA) model developed by Ursino and Lodi Ursino and Lodi (1997). We have used this model to analyze non-invasive measurements of cerebral blood flow velocity (CBFV) and arterial blood pressure obtained during postural change from sitting to standing for a healthy young subject. This paper includes a sensitivity analysis, ranking model parameters from the most to the least sensitive, and an analysis (using a methodology called subset selection) that allows identification of correlations among model parameters. Finally, we estimated patient specific parameters using the LevenbergMarquardt optimization method minimizing the least square errors between computed and measured values of CBFV.

Detection of Impaired Cerebral Autoregulation Using Selected Correlation Analysis: A Validation Study
Multimodal brain monitoring has been utilized to optimize treatment of patients with critical neurological diseases. However, the amount of data requires an integrative tool set to unmask pathological events in a timely fashion. Recently we have introduced a mathematical model allowing the simulation of pathophysiological conditions such as reduced intracranial compliance and impaired autoregul...

Introduction: Hospital administrators have always faced the challenge of providing the best possible health services in a resource-limited environment. The patient flow throughout the hospital is affected by lack of the capacities that can lead to bed-blocking among the hospital units. In this research, the patient flow in the hospital is modeled as an open queueing network with blocking. Then,...
متن کاملCerebral autoregulation and gas exchange studied using a human cardiopulmonary model.
The goal of this work is to study the cerebral autoregulation, brain gas exchange, and their interaction by means of a mathematical model. We have previously developed a model of the human cardiopulmonary (CP) system, which included the whole body circulatory system, lung and peripheral tissue gas exchange, and the central nervous system control of arterial pressure and ventilation. In this stu...

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) continues to be a major problem worldwide. Today, intensive care of patients with TBI is mainly focused on preventing and treating secondary brain injuries. High pressure inside the intracranial cavity has been found to be an important feature of disturbed cerebral dynamics and secondary injuries. Thus, invasive measurement of intracranial pressure (ICP) is today a ...

Introduction: Cerebral ischemia is one of the most common causes of death in human populations in the industrial communities. The need for animal models is inevitable to study the pathophysiology and treatment of cerebral ischemia in human. The current study aimed at evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of different techniques used to create ischemia in previous studies and optimizing the tr...
